Sustainable and Open

Since 2007

GeoCat offers a sustainable alternative

GeoCat builds sustainable applications following the Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) philosophy and open standards since 2007. We do this with the goal of providing Enterprise quality solutions that are sustainably developed, maintained and funded.

Spatial Data Infrastructure

GeoCat supports governments worldwide

GeoCat has been delivering many Spatial Data Infrastructure solutions worldwide based on GeoCat Find and GeoCat Map software. We provide consultancy services to a wide range of international and national agencies, local states and provinces as well as European funded projects.

COMMUNITY

Open as a source for innovation, continuity and safety

We belief that open source delivers more. More stability. More safety. More accessibility. More progress.

It is with reason that we are at the heart of the GIS open software community: people who share their passion for devising and optimizing solutions for spatial data. We participate in existing communities, initiate new projects and support initiatives and organizations that help the open source community flourish.

OUR TEAM

The people
behind GeoCat

OWNER AND FOUNDER

Jeroen Ticheler

GeoCat was founded by Jeroen Ticheler in 2007. Jeroen studied Tropical Forestry at Wageningen University, specialising in GIS and Remote Sensing. He worked for the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) where he held various positions in GIS/remote sensing, and established the now widely used GeoNetwork opensource project. The FAO GeoNetwork is the first implementation based on this software, releasing a large quantity of geospatial data to the public. Jeroen is member of the board of directors of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo)

In his free time Jeroen enjoys traveling, sailing, carpentry, mechanics, drumming, studying Jungian psychology and hanging out with his family.

Software Analyst

José García Segura

Jose is a software engineer who has worked mostly in geospatial software development, both with proprietary and open source software solutions.

He started working at GeoCat in 2009, where he is involved in software development for several projects using GeoNetwork opensource and GeoCat Bridge. He is a core committer on GeoNetwork opensource. In his spare time he likes watching movies while enjoying a nice Belgium beer.

Software Engineer

Juan Luís Rodríguez Ponce

Juan Luis is an Open Source enthusiast. He really believes that sharing our knowledge makes the world move forward.

He has been working with open source technologies since he started studying at the university. In the meantime, he has been developing GIS related projects since about 2006 at work. MapServer, GeoServer, routing engines, PostGIS, …

Juan Luis also contributes to OpenStreetMap, a free worldwide map everybody can edit and improve, contributing to Open Knowledge development.

Front End Developer

Michel Gabriël

Michel is a software engineer since 1997. He graduated in Tropical Land and Water Management at Wageningen University and soon specialized in GIS.

He quickly switched from desktop to online geospatial applications. Being someone with a keen eye for graphics and layout he moved gradually to front end development. Michel always wants to make complex (geospatial) applications look simple.

Product Owner

Jody Garnett

Jody loves the impact open-source geospatial solutions can have on both our customers and the world. He channels his enthusiasm and customer focus into the GeoCat Live and Map offerings.

As an open-source community builder and advocate, Jody represents our customers on the steering committees of GeoServer, GeoTools, JTS, and ImageN. Additionally, Jody volunteers with the OSGeo Foundation, where he helps to establish and promote new open-source technologies. Outside of work, Jody enjoys exploring Vancouver Island, home to our Canadian office.

Software Developer

David Blasby

With over 20 year history in open source GIS, David knew many of GeoCat’s core technologies upon his arrival. He is the original developer of PostGIS, and has been the engineering lead for GeoServer and GeoGIG. He has wide experience in Java, C#, Python, and Javascript. What drives him is providing products that people love to use and making them “Blastastic” (a cross between “Blasby” and “fan-tastic”).

David loves challenges – even in his free time. He has experience in rock and tree climbing as well as cave diving. You can’t escape his contagious laughter. When David modestly says something is cool, it’s definitely supercool!

Software Developer

Sander Schaminee

Sander joined GeoCat in 2020. Although he had been developing GIS applications for years, this marked the beginning of his journey into open source GIS, as he was mainly working with proprietary technologies before that.
So far, he has not regretted his decision, and he really enjoys collaborating with the open source community.

Sander especially likes to bridge the gap between open source and commercial GIS, which is probably why he became responsible for all GeoCat Bridge development, both for QGIS™ and the ArcGIS™ platform.

Test Engineer

Rosa Briones

Rosa graduated from the University of Valencia in History.
In this area she developed the skills of analysis, interpretation, relationship and classification of data, maps, images, documents and texts for effective cataloging of information.

At GeoCat she is in charge of organizing the testing of the company’s products based on the open source software GeoNetwork and Geoserver.

FINANCIAL OFFICER

Joop van Veen

Joop oversees all financial matters at GeoCat, where he has been employed since 2016. He is a trained accountant with experience working for an audit firm and has held the position of financial director at various companies. In his leisure time, Joop enjoys drinking French wine and watching baseball.
